Microsoft Subscription Changes You Need to Know

Current Experience (Today)
When a subscription expires with auto-renew turned off:
• A 30-day free grace period applies
• Services remain accessible without payment
What’s Changing (From 4 May 2026)
The free grace period will be transitioned to Extended Service Term (EST) for eligible subscriptions.
For subscriptions that meet the following:
• Purchased after 1 April 2025
• Expire after 4 May 2026
• Auto-renew is turned off
What this means:
• Subscription automatically continues under Extended Service Term (EST)
• Services remain active
• Charges apply immediately
How to Stay in Control
• Renew before expiration
Continue service with no disruption
• Cancel before expiration
Terminate subscription and lose immediate access
• Allow EST continuation
Allow services to continue without disruption at extra charges
• uplift of 3% for monthly term
• uplift of 23% if no monthly term exists
What You Should Do Now
• Review upcoming expirations
• Enable auto-renew where needed or enter EST continuation
• Cancel subscriptions if no longer required
